Spanish language services to be offered on Tuesday evenings at 7pm and on Sundays from 12-2pm
The Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center announced today it is expanding its services to meet the needs of the community. Iglesia Apostolicia de la fe en Cristo Jesus congregation will offer Spanish language services on Tuesday evenings at 7pm and on Sundays from 12-2pm. The services are free and open to anyone in the community.
"We are so excited to have Pastor Vidal and his congregation as part of an expansion of our interfaith community in Edwards. When we built this facility, we always envisioned that it would be an extension of the community and reflect the families that live here," says Deacon Steve Baird of the Episocopal Church of the Transfiguration and board member of the Eagle Valley Religious Foundation.
The Apostolic Assembly of the Faith in Christ Jesus is currently one of the fastest growing Hispanic Christian denominations in the world and the largest and oldest Spanish-speaking Oneness Pentecostal denomination in the United States. It has witnessed phenomenal growth in the U. S., experiencing 87% growth in membership from 1996 to 2002. Today, it is comprised of over 700 churches in the U. S and 550 missionary churches in 20 countries including Central and South America and Europe.
"We always wanted to expand the congregation from Gypsum to Edwards since a lot of our families come from Edwards and we had been looking for a location up valley", says Alan Vidal, son of Pastor Vidal. "We are so happy to have found the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and have enjoyed working with the board there."
Pastor Vidal started his career in a variety of ministries in Northern Mexico and began working at rehabilitation centers. An American met him and asked him to come to a facility in San Diego to teach classes. The pastor then went to Oregon and eventually ended up in Colorado Springs where he spent 10 years opening and running a church there. Then 2 1/2 years ago, Pastor Vidal came to Gypsum where he started the current church which is now being expanded to Edwards. He is also helping to open churches in Grand Junction and Pueblo.
The Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center hosts numerous events throughout the week including a weekly community supper on Thursday evenings from 6-7 pm. The facility is available for rent for events, weddings, meetings and other activities.
