Trinity Church, The Episcopal Church and The Salvation Army are offering a free community supper in Edwards at Trinity Church located at the top of Bull Run Road in Edwards (off HWY 6 just past the business center heading east) on Thursday evenings from 6-7 pm. This meal is offered to any member of the community that is in need and will begin this Thursday April 22. Volunteers are also needed to help with meal preparation and serving.
"We know there is a critical need for food due to the increased demands on the Salvation Army food pantry" said Steve Baird, organizer of this project and member of The Episcopal Church. "We need to offer a mid-valley opportunity to supplement the other programs at the Presbyterian Church in Avon and the Methodist Church in Eagle. There will now be dinners served in the valley on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings."
The Vail Valley Salvation Army provides emergency assistance and strives to meet human needs in an effort to promote self-sufficiency. "We're here to help people who've hit a rough patch," explained Dan Smith, Chairman of the Board. The Vail Valley Salvation Army's overall goal is to stabilize living conditions by providing food, shelter and housing, utility assistance and basic needs for families and individuals who are in an emergency situation and temporarily unable to provide for themselves.
The Episcopal Church is part of the four congregations currently building the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center on Highway 6 in Edwards. The other congregations include the Mt. of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Covenant Presbyterian Church and B'Nai Vail Jewish Congregation. Once the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center in Edwards is completed this fall, the community supper will move to that location.
To get to Trinity Church in Edwards, get off I-70 at the Edwards exit, #163, and head south to Highway 6, turn left and head east on Hwy 6 to Bull Run Road on your right (just past the Edwards Business Center).
